E. Marie McKee
Senior Vice President, Corning Incorporated
President and Chief Executive Officer, Steuben
President, The Corning Museum of Glass
Marie McKee began her career with Corning Incorporated in 1979 after graduating from Purdue University with a masters of Science degree. After graduating Marie McKee knew that "the way to be independent was to work, to have your own financial security and not to depend on somebody else. So I was determined to work—and that determination got me through a lot."
Marie McKee joined Corning as an EEO consultant for salaried women. She subsequently served as manager-Women & Minority Programs. After a short period of time Corning approached Marie to lead the initiative to create one of the country’s first corporate-sponsored child care centers. The center created a number of innovative solutions to child care and elder care for employees. She initiated and implemented a host of family-friendly programs and policies – flex time, job sharing, information resources for a broad range of personal, family and medical issues and more. One of the innovative solutions implemented through this program was lactation rooms for women who wish to breastfeed their infant.
In 1993 Marie began her career in Human Resources as Division Vice President of Strategic Staffing. In 1996 Marie was named Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Corporate Diversity Officer. During Marie’s successive HR leadership roles she was lead architect of the company’s outstanding people practices. Over the years Marie has been a key figure in designing and implementing human resource strategies, business processes and organization efforts aimed at both the human and business effectiveness of the organization.
Marie, in addition to her corporate responsibilities as Sr. Vice President, Corning Incorporated serves a dual leadership role: President and CEO of Steuben Glass and President of the Corning Museum of Glass. Steuben Glass has won worldwide acclaim by virtue of its excellence in design, material and craftsmanship. The Corning Museum of Glass is an internationally renowned showcase of the most comprehensive collection of glass in the world.
Marie currently serves on the board of trustees for The Corning Museum of Glass, the Corning Foundation and The Rockwell Museum. She is a member of the Women’s Forum of New York City and is also a Director of the Board of Progress Energy, Inc.
Marie understands that achieving success depends on fully engaging and empowering a diverse workforce. Much of her effort over the years has been directed toward advancing the cause of women and minorities. In addition, while Marie has moved up the corporate ladder and reached out into the community to help others, she has remained centered in her own family. These accomplishments should be an encouragement and inspiration to women in the workforce everywhere. |
